Just use arse, you ass.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I can\u2019t believe I\u2019m actually writing this one. Here is yet another of those amusing mixups. Though the usage of these terms depends on the country in which you live, there is actually a difference between the two words which, when accidentally swapped, can cause some awkward situations.<\/p>\n<h2>British use:<\/h2>\n<p>arse (noun)\u2014a person\u2019s buttocks<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <em>Sally slipped on the ice and landed on her arse.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>  <em>I\u2019ve been sitting on my arse all day, I want to go for a walk!\u2019 John complained.<\/em>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>arse (verb)\u2014to behave in a stupid manner<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <em>\u2018Stop arsing around, Ben! You\u2019ll break something!\u2019<\/em>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>arse (exclamation)\u2014informal expression of frustration or anger, often substituting a cruder expression<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <em>I can&#8217;t believe I just missed my train. Arse!<\/em>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>ass (noun)\u2014a donkey<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <em>The ass brayed loudly in the field.<\/em>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>ass (noun)\u2014a donkey<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <em>The horse and the ass stood together in the middle of the field.<\/em>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>ass (noun)\u2014an irritating or foolish individual<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <em>\u2018Oh, that Belinda is such an ass!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>  <em>Don\u2019t make an ass of yourself in front of all these people,\u2019 he warned.<\/em>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It is also common to pronounce this definition of <em>ass<\/em> as <em>arse<\/em> in many places in Britain and also Australia.<\/p>\n<h2>American exceptions:<\/h2>\n<p>ass (noun)\u2014a person\u2019s buttocks<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\n  <em>\u2018My mother grabbed the wooden spoon and smacked me on the ass.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>  <em>Get your ass into gear, corporal!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>  <em>Stop looking at me like that, Jones, or I\u2019ll bust your ass!<\/em>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since this is a country-specific issue, to avoid any mixups, it all boils down to consistency.
